Lampshade
A softly gathered petticoat-style lampshade, shaped with generous folds that fall outward in a gentle, skirt-like silhouette. The form allows the fabric to drape naturally, creating movement and depth as light passes through the pleats. The upper edge is finished with a deep navy decorative trim — a Japanese-made rayon-blend ribbon woven with delicate embroidered motifs in subtle colour gradations.
This lampshade is named after Yunnan, the first place I took my husband to when he visited China. We love its rich cultural diversity, beautiful landscapes and the warmth of its people.
All lampshades are handmade in England.

Fabrics
The silk fabric used for this lampshade features the traditional Baoxiang flower, an ornamental motif that flourished during the Tang Dynasty (7th–10th century). The Baoxiang flower is a stylised composite bloom that blends elements of lotus, peony and other auspicious flowers. Through this idealised design, artisans sought to represent the idea of perfect beauty and harmony.
In historical Chinese textiles, this motif appeared widely in silk weaving, ceramics and architectural decoration. Its circular symmetry and layered petals symbolised prosperity, balance and abundance, making it a favourite pattern in court fabrics and ceremonial objects.
Within the floral medallions of this textile, small hares can be seen running among the blossoms. In traditional symbolism, the hare is closely associated with the moon and with ideas of renewal, vitality and good fortune. Its lively movement introduces a playful rhythm to the otherwise symmetrical floral pattern.
