This handcrafted tabletop organiser combines reclaimed Chinese carved wooden panels with a newly made Chinese toon wood (Toona sinensis) body, transforming fragments of traditional craftsmanship into a practical piece for contemporary interiors.
Two original carved panels have been incorporated into the front: a slender red openwork panel beneath the upper tray and a richly decorated panel forming the face of the lower drawer. Their original colours, gilded details, wear and patina have been deliberately preserved, giving the piece its distinctive character and making it entirely unique.
The generous open tray at the top provides easy-access storage, while the deep pull-out drawer below offers additional concealed space. Integrated handholds on the sides make the piece easy to move. It could be used for tea accessories, stationery, jewellery, correspondence or other everyday objects.
The simplicity of the newly crafted body provides a quiet contrast to the elaborate old carvings, allowing their age and craftsmanship to remain the focus while giving them a new functional life.
