This handcrafted tabletop cabinet combines a newly made Chinese toon wood (Toona sinensis) body with a pair of reclaimed Chinese carved wooden panels, giving fragments of traditional craftsmanship a new functional life.
The two original openwork panels are incorporated into the cabinet doors, featuring traditional floral motifs surrounding a central vessel. Their original green ground, warm golden decoration, natural wear and aged patina have been carefully retained, creating a beautiful contrast with the understated dark-toned toon wood cabinet.
The double doors open to reveal a practical storage compartment, while the raised tray-style top provides an additional surface for displaying or keeping tea ware, incense, jewellery and other small objects. Decorative brass hinges and fittings complement the traditional character of the reclaimed panels.
Compact enough for tabletop use, the piece works beautifully as a tea cabinet, keepsake cabinet or decorative storage piece on a console, sideboard or desk. The marks and variations visible on the reclaimed panels are part of their history and make this piece unique.
